Going for Hole in One We've found a great way to unwind after all of our hard work on the Women's Conference weekend. We're hitting the links in the new Women's Project Golf League! The golf league began on May 14 at the Marsh Island Golf Club in Lewes and will run through October. The league play will be held at that location every Wednesday afternoon with tee off beginning promptly at 3:30 p.m., so golfers should arrive no later than 3:15 p.m. The cost is $20 for nine holes, either walking or riding. All golfers will be responsible for paying their own green fees each week and letting the starter know that you are part of the Women's Project Golf League. In order to give the Marsh Island Golf Club adequate time to determine if a specific week needs to have a shotgun start, all golfers playing for a specific week need to e-mail Joanne Kempton and Judy Olsen at kamaga@snip.net or call them at 302-644-8558 by the Sunday before each Wednesday. From the contact list they compile each Sunday, they will then draw names to determine who will play in each foursome. If you are playing with a partner as a twosome, then your twosome's names will go "into the hat." Each Monday, Joanne and Judy will notify the golf course as to how many foursomes there will be for that week so tee times can be set up and the need for a shotgun start can be determined. A shotgun start means that those golfers who need to play late may not get a chance to play as part of the league. The reason for the potential shotgun start is due to the course's "twilight time" starting at 4:00 p.m. each day. They would like to get our league on its way before the "twilight time" starts. Our many thanks to Joanne and Judy for expending so much time and energy in setting up the golf league. Playing in the league gives us an opportunity to get some exercise, learn (or improve) our game, socialize, and have fun with lots of wonderful women in our community. If you have questions or want to join the league, please contact Joanne and Judy or the CAMP Rehoboth office at 302-227-5620. See you on the first tee! The Women's Conference was recently nominated as a "Favorite GLBT Community Education Event/Activity" by Gay Delaware readers. We were nominated in that category along with CAMPsafe and the NCCRCC Women's Conference. The CAMP Rehoboth Women's Project Committee is thrilled to have the Women's Conference recognized by the community. In addition to developing a Women's Project page on the CAMP Rehoboth website, we are in the process of setting up an e-mail group specifically for Women's Project volunteers and supporters to improve communications. There are lots of great ideas coming together for the Women's Project. In the next issue of Letters, we will give you an update and let you know how you can be more involved. We have lots of fun and interesting work ahead of us so we need your expertise and ideas. Until then, keep those cards and letters coming! |
