SPEAK Out |
Lost in the presidential election is Delaware's very important Democratic Primary for Governor which is to be held on Sept. 9.
Although both gubernatorial candidates claim they are supportive of equal rights, the Delaware Stonewall Democrats made its decision on who to endorse after studying the candidates' records, analyzing their stated positions, and personal conversations with the candidates. We reached the conclusion that our State Treasurer, Jack Markell, is far superior to his opponent on issues of importance to the GLBT Community. He met with us often since the formation of Delaware Stonewall, often on his own initiative. He has the support of state legislators who support us, including Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf and Sen. Karen Peterson while his opponent has the support of two of the most homophobic Senators, Adams and Venables, among others. We believe Jack Markell will take the initiative in passing legislation which will provide equal treatment to all. It looks like a tight election so if you cannot make it to the polls get an absentee ballot from your County Election office. We cannot afford not to vote. Peter Schott, President, Delaware Stonewall Democrats |
