Mid-July always seems to catch me by surprise, as it did this week when I suddenly realized the summer was already half over! Hard to believe, isn’t it? In season, we publish Letters from CAMP Rehoboth every two weeks, and combined with all our summer activities here at the Community Center, life comes at us very fast. In the blink of an eye, Labor Day will be upon us; enjoy the summer while it lasts!
In Rehoboth, talk of Labor Day weekend always includes Sundance—our biggest and oldest event—and a real Rehoboth tradition. This year all our many beach friends will gather to celebrate Sundance for the 24th time! Sundance 2011 is called The Wonderful, Glorious, Amazing Light of the Watercolor Rainbow, and we hope it will be the most “wonderful, glorious, amazing” weekend of the year. A successful Sundance requires the help of hundreds of Sponsors, Supporters, and Hosts who provide the foundation for the entire event, so please consider signing up at one of the many levels available. A list of benefits for each level can by found on our website. All the Host/Sponsor levels, plus tickets for both nights, may be purchased online. Make plans now to be at the RB Convention Center on Labor Day Weekend. Saturday, September 3, from 7-10 p.m., is the silent and live auction (with auctioneer Lorne Crawford!), a cocktail buffet, and open bar. Sunday, September 4, from 8 p.m.-2 a.m., is the dance, with music by DJ Mark Thomas, lights by Paul Turner, and an open bar.
long before the lights and decorations for sundance are put in place, the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center will play host to the DC Cowboys, produced by Bruce Pfeufer and Mini Bear Graphics, in a benefit performance for CAMP Rehoboth, the DC Cowboys are returning to Rehoboth Beach with an all new show. The DC Cowboys rose to fame on America’s Got Talent, and they specialize in exciting, high-energy dance numbers in a variety of styles. Tickets for the CC Cowboys are available online or by calling 302-227-5620.
I hate to say it, but CAMP Rehoboth is once again seeking to fill the position of Administrative Assistant. The job is sometimes administrative, sometimes secretarial, requires excellent proofreading and computer skills, some volunteer management experience, and an outgoing and friendly personality. The job requires a deep commitment to CAMP Rehoboth and to our mission and vision, and a willingness to work the long hours involved—especially during the summer season—and the physical stamina to handle major events and a variety of day-to-day challenges. To apply for the job, email your resumé to me.
In his CAMPmatters column in a previous issue of Letters from CAMP Rehoboth, my partner Murray Archibald, President of CAMP Rehoboth, pointed out an interesting fact. “If enough people become members and pledge their support for the work of CAMP Rehoboth, we will never be forced to make our decisions from a strictly monetary perspective. We can then operate in a fully balanced state between budget and vision.” He went on to say, “With each of us giving a little every month, we have the power to change the word around us and to provide financial security for the Community Center and for the future.” Our membership program is crucial to the success of CAMP Rehoboth. If you’re not a member, please consider being one at the highest level you can afford. If you are already a member, please consider upgrading to a higher level. If you have friends who are not members, please encourage them to join.
Lastly, Id like to say a special thanks to Sal Seeley for organizing the Beefcake/Cheesecake art exhibit at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center, and to Fay Jacobs and Bonnie Quesenberry for doing the same for the Eddie Sarfaty’s Two Comics-One Voice performances there as well.
