The Big Switch!
We turned a lemony snicket into lemonade. When we heard that comic Jessica Kirson would be unable to join us this year, we asked her to help us find an A-list replacement. Boy did we luck out!
Comic Karen Williams, an international sensation happened to have a small window of time to help us out! Holy cow! Now we have a double bill with Karen Williams and Sweet Baby J’ai.
Hold onto your hats, we’re going to raise the roof on the Atlantic Sands with that duo!
FEST Tickets on Sale! What a line-up!
Where were you 35 years ago? Oh please don’t say I wasn’t born yet! But if you do say that, it’s really okay, And it’s also grand if you remember exactly where you were three decades ago!
While Women’s FEST has some very exciting contemporary performers and events for you this year, the FEST also features a great big 30th Anniversary celebration.
Producer/Director Donna Deitch will be in town to celebrate three decades of women enjoying the great big, iconic lesbian film Desert Hearts. And we can bet that anyone who has ever seen the film remembers that delicious hour and a half!
Not only will Donna Deitch be here to accompany our showing of the movie, but she will do a Q&A and give us the inside scoop on that amazing movie.
As for the contemporary side, our Keynote speaker is Human Rights Campaign National Press Secretary Sarah McBride. She has an amazing personal story to tell as well as telling us what it was like being the first transgender woman to speak at a major party nominating convention.
Hear the inside story on that one, plus her suggestions on a blueprint for LGBT activism in our new political climate.
And speaking of climate, it’s going to get HOT at the Atlantic Sands with our headline double bill of comic, with a return visit by Karen Williams and a return engagement by the multi-talented musician, songwriter, and singer Sweet Baby Jai. Those Friday and Saturday main stage shows will be HOT! Williams will have you screaming with laughter—can you just imagine what she has to say about politics (!) and Sweet Baby J’ai will command the stage and have everybody up and cheering just like last time. It’s a dynamic double bill.
Tickets are going fast! Get them now—remember, the Atlantic Sands is a smaller and more intimate venue than the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center—which means there are less tickets available! But of course, it’s going to be way more up close and personal.
In addition, British comic Gina Yashere, who has been highlighted aboard Olivia, on the BBC, Last Comic Standing, and in theatres worldwide, brings her outrageous observations to Women’s FEST. Two FEST shows were originally planned, but early interest has led the FEST Committee to add a third, late night show with Gina—that one should be outrageous! All Gina Yashere shows have been moved to All Saint’s Church.
On the music front we welcome the legendary Tret Fure back for shows at CAMP Rehoboth along with comic/singer Julie Wheeler and singer/guitarist Regina Sayles.
Another exciting addition for this FEST will be a reading of Dorothy Allison’s award-winning manuscript One or Two Things I Know for Sure, performed by the inimitable Stacey Fearheiley, directed by Fay Jacobs. Fearheiley, the fierce redhead, has been on stage in Rehoboth before, in The Vagina Monologues and Red Hot Patriot—the Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins.
This time around the story has humor alright, but also a powerful, dramatic punch that will leave you amazed.
Thanks to our wonderful collaboration with Olivia Travel, we will once again raffle away an amazing Olivia vacation (Punta Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic!), and there will be more sports events than ever. And don’t forget the legendary opening dance party (sponsored by and in honor of the late Georgette Krenkle), the Ladies 2000 tea dance at the top of the Henlopen Hotel, well-known lesbian authors, book launches, and much more.
