It seems odd to me that F.B.I. agents are just now telling us gay folk in Delaware to be on the look out for Andrew Cunanan. After all, it has been more than a week since Cunanan allegedly killed Gianni Versaceand possibly four other men, both gay and straight. I finally received a poor quality fax of their wanted poster yesterday. We can only hope that if the F.B.I. didnt think about us, maybe the man who tops their 10 Most Wanted list wont either. Just to be safe, however, were running photos of Cunanan on page 5 of this issue.
PRIDE 97 is slated for this Sunday night at the Renegade, and it looks like its going to be a great evening. You know how packed their dance floor will be till the early hours of Sunday morning, and you can imagine what it must look like when the last of the party crowd heads home. What you wont believe is the major transformation that will occur between morning and evening. It takes an amazing amount of hard work, sweat and love to be able to put on events such as this, and we appreciate what Wayne Hodge and his staff do to raise money for AIDS services in Delaware. The event is from 7 - 10 p.m. and tickets are available at the door. I hope to see you there.
Speaking of people putting their hearts and soul into special events, I have been negligent in offering special thanks to Kathy Kramedas-McGuiness and Anne Marie Burnell of Main Street for the work they did to bring fireworks back to Rehoboth. Even though circumstances way beyond their control caused a delay, when the sky finally lit up, it was wonderful. I cant wait till next year.
CAMP Rehoboth has been a major supporter of the Rehoboth Main Street program since it began, and we are one of four groups in the community who have permanent liaison positions to their board. It takes all kinds of people from all walks of life to really make a worthwhile community. The primary mission of CAMP Rehoboth has been, and will continue to be, working toward building a safe and inclusive community with room for allgay and straight. It has always been important to us to seek areas of mutual understanding with all groups in our community. And because of our understanding, it has been easier to address any issues on which we disagree. Some people may feel this approach is one of trying to be everything to everyone. Contrary to what they may think, CAMP Rehoboth is more than a gay and lesbian organization. We are an integral part of what makes Rehoboth such a great place to live and to visit. We are working together to build a safe and inclusive community with room for all. And from the way I see it, we are right on track.
Pull out your calendars and circle Saturday and Sunday, August 30 & 31. Thats when I hope you will be at SUNDANCE 97 at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. It is not too late to be a host of this years event. Call or stop by CAMP Rehoboth or SCAC for more information.
