Its happened again...
And Im asked to forget.
Its happened again...
And those selfish concerns I cant let...
Control my life...
Pull my strings and make me think twice.
The center inside your tootsie pop
turned out to be a bust
Just how many licks
Did you waste on us?
And I guess I wasnt the flavor of the day...
Didnt tantalize your tongue with every lick...
Im sure you expected some kind of trick...
So you bit down hard
And cracked the candy that coated my heart.
Cracked open for all to see...
And what you saw,
Did it make you believe in me?
Staring into a reflection that challenged yourself,
And so once challenged where do you reside?
Did you take up arms and fight...
Or run and hide...
From the vision that kept your soul locked inside
Free to fight at last
Or die left by the roadside
The Roadside of fears...
What arrived today hasnt died from the tears
Shed for love, or for loss...
Salt in the wounds,
Or a bridge enabling us to cross
to the other side...
Where we no longer have to hide
From the feelings that keep us chastised,
And locked in place.
Did I start too soon?
Am I standing still?
Or did I already win the race?
