LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth |
The Sounds of Autumn Jazz |
Currently in it's 11th year, the Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz festival was originally created to bolster the shoulder season in Rehobothnow it is a sparkling jewel in the crown of events that make Rehoboth a great place to be during the fall. Produced by a non-profit organizationthe Delaware Celebration of Jazz, Inc. the Jazz Festival is known throughout the region and features a multitude of regional and national talent. Among the original creators of the Jazz Festival, is a list of names easily recognizable to the readers of Letter's from CAMP Rehoboth Bill Sievert and his partner John Theis, Joe Engers, Joan Thompson, David Ruffo and Jack Foreman. In the years since, a great many people have worked to keep the festival growingand to keep the music playing. Last year's tenth anniversary Jazz Festival recognized many of the early volunteers who worked to make the event a success, such as John Kleitz, Melissa Clink, Bill Klemkowski and Linda DiDomenicis, with the Arzt Award. That award, of course, takes it's name from Sydney Arzt, the first recipient and a tireless promoter of live music. "It's really unbelievable," says Denny Santangini, president of the Delaware Celebration of Jazz, in this year's program, "tickets went on sale in July and by mid-August the concerts were half sold out...one of the really great things is that the Jazz Festival is now bringing people to Rehoboth Beach who have never been here before." The Autumn Jazz Festival begins on Thursday, Oct. 19, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 22. For a complete listing of events, the Festival program You Never Heard The Ocean Sound Like Thisis available at sites all over town. Perky Scott, a local performer who frequently sings with the group Extremity. The gospel brunch is set for Sunday, Oct. 22, 10:30 a.m., at the BayCenter in Dewey. During the days and nights of the Autumn Jazz Festival, music literally bursts out on the street wherever you go.
