Speak Out |
The choice we make next month about who represents us in Dover will have a lasting effect on Sussex County. We need a thoughtful, deliberative person as our State Senator. There will be a lot of pressures to deal with over the next few years. We've come a long way through the help of Senator George Bunting. Our schools are improved. Our water supplies are being improved. Our roads are better than they were when he took office. But none of this can be done overnight or in "willy-nilly" fashion. That's why I believe we need to send Senator George Bunting back for another term of office. George Bunting's effective leadership on issues that impact Sussex County and the State of Delaware are invaluable. His quiet deliberation and his attention to detail are always balanced with the needs of his constituents. Although he runs a successful business, year-round, and serves as a member of the Delaware State Senate, George Bunting is always available. If you need him, he is always there. I have always been able to speak with him on issues that are important to all of us. George Bunting is a "quiet-force" in Dover. We need him there. That is why on November 7th I will vote to elect Senator George Bunting for another term of office. Vickie York What a year it has been! Can you believe that summer has passed, as well as Henlopen Theater Project's Season 2000? This year HTP produced 8 events from January through June in addition to its first full summer season of 5 plays in 4 weeks during July and August. We were delighted to bring you a roster of talent that included three Emmy winners, two Tony winners, a Grammy winner and an Academy Award nominee. On behalf of the board and staff, HTP would like to thank you for your support. It has been wonderful and overwhelming. We'd also like to thank you for sending in the audience response forms. They are a tremendous help as we start planning for next season. However, in order for HTP to continue to bring you such amazing talent and stellar productions, it takes time and, of course, money. Producing theater is very labor intensive and very cost prohibitive. Our housing costs alone for the actors and staff were 30% of our annual budget. Some of the plays we're thinking about for next season have large casts, especially those musicals that everyone keeps asking about. Among HTP's other costs are actor salaries, union wages and intern stipends, as well as our regular staff salaries (and if you have seen Donna, our fabulous general manager, well...there's a reason she's so thin.) So, at this time, we would like you to consider making a small donation to help HTP continue its mission of bringing Broadway to the Beach. Even the smallest donation is appreciated. (That five dollars can go a long way and buys 2 boxes of Twinkies.) So please give and lets get some weight on Donna for the long, cold, winter ahead. Your donation can help make sure our actors and interns can come back, and that HTP can feed and house those starving artists. You can make a difference! If you would like, you may make donations in the name of friends, family, co-workers or clientsit's a wonderful way to honor them and help us. Remember HTP is a 501(c)3 corporation and all donations are tax deductible. I thank you. The Board thanks you. The actors, playwrights and designers thank you and Donna really, really thanks you. We hope to see you this coming year at some of our events like our Valentine's Day Cabaret Fundraiser, HTP's Third Annual High School Theater Festival and our Spring Poetry Festival. James FitzSimmons Managing Director Henlopen Theater Project It's almost time for the 2000 Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival and we need all the volunteers we can find to assist with one of the largest multi-day events in the State of Delaware! We are looking for volunteers to help us with this year's festival. If you would like to volunteer, stop by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society (RBFS) office in the Rehoboth Mall (next to Radio Shack), and fill out a Volunteer form. A volunteer meeting to provide information and training will be held on November 4, at 11 a.m., at the RBFS office. At the meeting, Captains will be available to provide more information regarding the specific needs and responsibilities of each area. Looking forward to working with you at the festival! Nancy Kaiser Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival With regard to our recent move to your state, and the hardship we had trying to find suitable and affordable housing, first I would like to state it a pleasure to have made your acquaintances. I would also like to include our gratitude for your efforts in assisting us in the trying times of this current venture of establishing a residence in this area. I would also like to thank the staff of Epworth Church for allowing the usage of their facilities, and for their patience with us as well. It has been quite a journey traveled thus far. With the upcoming winter season approaching, we are fortunate to have the residence you have all provided efforts in assisting us to obtain. Thank you all very much, and also accept my sincerest graces in having all of you as friends, as well as very special neighbors. I was also pleased your SUNDANCE 2000 event was a great success. Hopefully, all who attended had an enjoyable time. I am certain we will all be speaking with one another on a regular basis, and we will keep you informed of any changes of circumstance, which always seem to happen quite a number of times in the course of everyone's life spans. You are all a wonderful group of people and manage to make my everyday experiences pleasant ones. May all of you be successful in all of your future endeavors, of which I am hopeful to be able to participate in of my own accord. Seana M. Dalton, Joseph T. Francis, and Jenifer D. To our gay community of Delaware and our straight friends, my heartfelt thanks for all of your help and support for the 2001 Miss Gay Delaware Regional Pageant which was held last month at the Renegade Resort. This year's pageant had the largest turn-out in 12 years. Eight contestants vied for the title and crown now worn by Delaware's new queen, Miss Blair Michaels of DC. First alternate is Miss Joy Monet of Atlantic City, with Delaware's Pride Queen, Miss Karyn Thomas in second alternate position. Mr. Christopher Peterson, in the illusion of Ann-Margret, opened the show performing "Copacabana" on a spectacular set designed by Richard Versia. Sparkle, feathers, bangles and beads created the theme of "Las Vegas Showgirls." As the producer, owner and promoter of the Miss Gay Delaware Regional Pageantry System, I feel the need to thank the following for giving their sponsorship, support, and talents, both in front of and behind the scenes. If not for their generosity, their time, and their belief in me, we would be nothing more than men in very expensive gowns! If I omitted anyone, please forgive me, it was nothing more than an oversight on my part. Special thanks to our sponsors: CAMP Rehoboth, Cloud 9, Celsius, Lamp Post Restaurant, The Renegade and staff, Caf Italia, Etched in Time, Mobile Massage, Studio One, Holiday Hair, Nassau Valley Vineyards, William's Flowers, Ron Boyce, Keith Wilkinson, Mother Tony, Atlantic and Hastings Printers, and The Shore Inn of Rehoboth. Emcees and Performers: Christopher Peterson, Miss Peaches, Mahogany, Dominique Taylor, Randy Weiss, Monika Michaels, Sofia Holland and Valerie, Michael Schilling, Kennie Russell and Company, Wayne Hodge, Cathy Carpenter, Fantasia, Val Vegas and escorts Joseph and Bruce. In closing, to those of you in front of and behind the scenes, and to those who were patrons, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope you feel I have succeeded in proving that female impersonation is an art. I hope to see all of you next year when we create another evening of professional gay pageantry in Delaware.
