With this issue of Letters we return to a biweekly publishing schedule. Check the newsstands every other Friday throughout the summer for information, photos, and the latest from your favorite CAMP columnists. When Claire Ippoliti came to me some months ago to talk about the idea of starting a group of CAMP Rehoboth volunteers to go out and work in the community, I was thrilled. On May 2nd, that group got off to a great start by repainting much of the inside of West Rehoboth's West Side New Beginnings Community Center (see photos on next page). With our President and First Lady encouraging us all to get involved in community work, Claire's concept comes at a perfect time. To suggest projects or to join the group, contact me at CAMP Rehoboth or Claire at clairei281@aol.com. Though we had a little open house back in the winter to celebrate the opening of the new wing of the Community Center, its official Dedication and Grand Opening will take place on Saturday, May 30 from 5-7 p.m. (the program will begin around 6:15 p.m.). We are still waiting for final confirmation, but we anticipate that Governor Markell will be able to join us for the event. We are also very excited that our beautiful Founders' Circle wall has won a Merit Award in the 2009 Small Project Awards program of AIA National. The Dedication and Grand Opening party is open to everyone so please make plans to join us as we celebrate this great moment in the life of CAMP Rehoboth and our community. With the completion of our new community center space we are also expanding our program opportunities. Currently we are offering our long running Men's Group, a new Women's Group, Tai Chi, a Grief Support Group, ongoing Health Days and the opportunity to get involved in a new CAMP Chorus (organizational date, May 18, at 8 p.m.). NA and AA Groups also meet a various times at the Center. To join an existing group call the CAMP office; to talk about organizing a new one, contact me, or our new Program Committee Chair Glen Pruitt. We are all very excited about our newest summer eventLottoHeARTand the way it will become the first night of our revamped Whole Lotta Love Weekend. Like the two nights of Sundance (auction and dance), Love will now be a two night event with the LottoHEART event Friday night and the Big Love Dance on Saturday. Over 200 artists from all over the country have signed up to provide two pieces of artwork for LottoHEART. General Admission to LottoHEART is $25; Art Level admission is $100. Buy an art ticket and walk away with an original work of art. The "lotto" part is the order in which the players get to choose. Hosted by Christopher Peterson, the evening is sure to be a hit. Changing times mean changes at CAMP Rehoboth as well, and we say a farewell to two events that have been a big part of our summer scene for a number of yearsThe Black and White Beach Ball and the CAMP Rehoboth Follies. The B&W Ball is being replaced with LottoHEART, and the Follies by comedian Bruce Vilanch in August. Founders' Circle members please note that this years Founders' Circle event will be the Art Preview/meet the artists Party at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center on June 27. Please note that CAMP Membership ticket discounts apply to all the CAMP Rehoboth events mentioned in this column. For information about becoming a member of CAMP Rehoboth, see page 16 or view the membership info at camprehoboth.com. Membership is the best way to support the work of the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center. |
