Ten Years of Getting in Shape with Bill Miller
This month marks a decade for Bill Miller's serious second career. He's been getting people into shape at Gold's Gym since May 1999 and loves his workplus, it's the kind of job that leaves him time to contribute his volunteer efforts for the communitysomething very important to Bill and his partner of 28 years Joe Mirabella. Setting up shop in a small town, staying and getting involved locally is pretty opposite of the kind of thing Bill did in his first careerhe toured the world with the Navy Department, National Guard activation during the Viet-Nam War, and worked oversees as a Foreign Service Executive Officer with stints in Central and South America, the Far East and Saudi Arabia. But a decade ago, with things heating up around the world, small town livingin a gay friendly town at thatheld a whole lot of appeal for Bill and Joe. The guys both took early retirement and the rest is Gold's Gym and CAMP's Sundance Weekend history. Bill has spent the last decade as a certified personal trainer and sports nutritionist with Gold's Gym. He doesn't believe in diets but he does believe in changing one's lifestyle, "Change your body and you'll change your life." The benefits of your new body will be apparent to all, but the benefits to your life change may be more important to you. Is there anyone left out there not feeling life stress? According to Bill proper eating habits, a bit of cardiovascular training with a touch of weight training and you've got a formula that loses extra pounds, tones, firms or gains muscle and helps relieve stress. And it all begins with a chat; and a free chat at that. It doesn't matter whether you're a gym "regular" or just looking to get started, your first thirty-minute appointment with Bill Miller starts with a complimentary fitness consultation. "We will discuss your current state of health and fitness; define your personal goals and targets as well as create a starting point to track your progress." It is Bill's job to make sure you get the most out of your gym time. As a fitness consultant he brings a "strong understanding of the functions and vital processes of the body," which enables him to effectively design and deliver personal fitness including training and nutrition to each client. According to Bill, age is irrelevant, but your health is not. It's about the right way for you and that's what he teaches. And he teaches it at a gym that is also willing to put their money where their mouth is. Gold's Gym is offering a seven day pass to all first time local guests, letting Bill and the equipment prove it to you. As for the CAMP connection, Bill and Joe have been two of the most stalwart worker bees putting together the awesome dcor of Murray Archibald at Sundance Weekend each year. It's common to see them stretching fabric, assembling giant screens, measuring things, gluing things, hoisting things and generally using their fitness skills (okay, maybe not with the fabric chores) to turn the RB Convention Center into a hot, hot, hot dance club. Over the years, Bill has contributed to and been involved in other organizations as well, including Rehoboth Beach Main Street, Rehoboth Film Society, Rehoboth Art League, Chef's Best for Meals on Wheels, The Wellness Community and more. It's all part of his commitment to Rehoboth and commitment to helping the folks he meets at the gym achieve their goals. So get your free gym pass and meet your new personal trainer. What do you have to lose, except maybe a winter pound or two or five? For those of you who are a little intimidated by the thought of a strict personal trainer, don't worry. One of Bill's tips for gaining muscle is...ready now? Eat ice-cream after your workout. He says have a bowl of ice cream (any kind) two hours after your workout. According to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, this snack triggers a surge of insulin better than most foods do. And that'll put a damper on post-workout protein breakdown. Check out www.bodybybill.net for the article about it! And then get your seven day pass! Gold's Gym is located at 3712 Highway One, Unit #11 in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
